    IWT announces the SENTINEL™ Uniti Node, one device that enables a wireless network (no fiber or other data transmission cabling) to support all service types a mine may need.  IWT’s high data rate HDRMesh™ technology is combined with our field-proven, market-leading communications and tracking technology to create a robust, reliable, wireless digital network, even where wired systems fail – at the working face where it’s needed most.   • IWT Presents 'Underground Communication Innovations' at North American Tunnel Conference

    IWT Applications Engineer Jason Jarrett presented "Underground Communication Innovation" at the 2018 North American Tunneling Conference in Washington D.C., June 25, 2018. Tunnels are rugged environments with large moving equipment, explosives and hazards including water, dust and gas. To date, there are few underground communication and tracking systems available for tunnel projects that support OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) compliance. After the 2006 Sago Mine disaster, research and development was performed to improve communication systems for the underground environment. Today, over 250 US mines utilize these new technologies to improve productivity, reduce costs and enhance safety. This paper explores these new technologies and provides guidance for planners through the process of selecting a tunnel communication solution. It reviews the key requirements and constraints for consideration and provides an overview of various communication and networking technologies and discusses their strengths and weaknesses.  
  • IWT Integrates with Biomarine for Miner Safety

    LYNCHBURG, VA,  May 8, 2018 - Innovative Wireless Technologies, Inc. announced today the successful integration of its SENTINEL™ Mine Rescue Communication System with the Biomarine BioPak 240 Revolution Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.  The integration of the two systems allows direct connection of the BioPak facemask to the SENTINEL Mine Rescue Handset, improving voice quality via the microphone installed inside the facemask.  The integrated solution has received intrinsic safety approval by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
  • IWT Wins Big Data Analytics SBIR

    LYNCHBURG, VA, April 27, 2018 - Innovative Wireless Technologies, Inc. announced today that it has secured a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award through the U.S. Department of Energy to develop big data analytics enhancements to the Integrated Environmental Quality Sensing (IEQS) system.  The previously awarded IEQS system utilizes IWT’s patented three-tier mesh architecture to create a highly-scalable IoT sensor mesh network and big data processing system for large scale environmental monitoring applications.   “We are proud of the continued role IWT has in developing this important environmental monitoring technology,” said IWT CEO Eric Hansen. “This contract represents a continuance of IWT’s history for providing innovative ways to connect, transmit and analyze data from challenging environments.” IWT is partnering with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to develop a graph-based NoSQL database, visualization tools and interface to DOE integrated workflow management platforms to support a seamless and robust cyberinfrastructure that fully enables complex data management, cross-domain modeling, data analysis, and collaborative research. The Big Data Enhancement (BE) IEQS system will allow researchers to decipher complex spatial/temporal coupled interactions between water, soil, biota, and biogeochemistry to reveal dependencies and associations of man-made and natural influences and will promote new methods to predict effects of various subsurface activities and perturbations (e.g., carbon capture/sequestration, hydraulic fracturing, mining, water supply management, land degradation, and climate change) and support cleanup of legacy waste sites.
