IWT Presents at 2018 National Holmes Safety Conference
IWT's Phil Carrier, VP Sales and Marketing, will discuss the safety implications of "Voice Communication and Tracking in Return Entries and Longwall Bleeders" Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 8 a.m. as part of the National Holmes Safety Association Conference. The conference will be held at the Double Tree Hilton in Denver, Colorado June 5 - 7, 2018.
The presentation will discuss how longwall coal mine bleeder entries must be inspected weekly and can take up to eight hours to walk and examine. Miners performing these inspections are required to notify of their entry and exit; otherwise, they walk these less-traveled entries completely disconnected from anyone.
This time of isolation has been a safety concern of mine operators and MSHA for some time. Injury, or worse, can befall a miner while in these areas. In fact, the fatality of a miner while inspecting the bleeder and the time it took to find him has brought this concern to the forefront.
In response, IWT has developed an intrinsically safe, wireless, battery-operated solution that enables these miners to remain in voice communication range and to be tracked the entire way – just like their peers elsewhere in the mine.
