LYNCHBURG, VA, September 14, 2017 – Innovative Wireless Technologies, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a Phase 2 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract through the U.S. Department of Energy for environmental monitoring sensors. This award is a follow-on to a DOE SBIR Phase 1 contract in which IWT partnered with Virginia Tech to successfully demonstrate the feasibility of its Integrated Environmental Quality Sensing (IEQS) system which utilizes IWT’s patented three-tier mesh architecture to create a highly-scalable IoT sensor mesh network and big data processing system for large scale environmental monitoring applications.

“We are delighted that this Phase 2 award from DOE builds upon IWT’s low-power mesh wireless and sensor fusion technologies,” said Todd Irby, IWT’s chief operating officer. “IWT is leading the way in connecting, controlling, and analyzing data from devices for informed decisions and improved efficiencies in challenging environments.”

For the Phase 2 portion of this contract, IWT is partnering with the Virginia Tech and the DOE Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to further the development, production and commercialization of the system. This program will drive growth across IWT’s offices in NV, IN, WV and at its headquarters in Lynchburg, VA.

“DOE SBIR grants are extremely competitive to win and we are excited to be selected,” said IWT CEO Eric Hansen. “IWT has a solid track record of transitioning R&D funding into commercial successes. This win will open up new markets for our business and builds on IWT’s diversity strategy.”
